German SIG
German SIG
Saturday, April 20
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Virtual via Zoom

When did you first learn about your German heritage?
Our speaker for April, Merv Weiss, will be exploring the topic of learning about his German-ness with his talk, “Growing Up German Without Realizing It.” Merv says that “Genealogy has brought my long-dormant German identity to the surface and is now a strong part of who I am.” I’ll bet this resonates with many of us!

To register for this event, click here.
You only need to register once for all German SIG meetings October 2023 through June 2024.  After registering, you will also receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Keep this email; it may be the only link you get.  If you forget to register in advance or misplace the email with the link, don't worry.  Register again. You will be able to join the meeting directly from the registration window.

Inviting the Family for a Bigger Piece of Pie
Imagine someone asking you to research their great grandfather but only allowing you to use 6.25% of the available genealogical records for the research. That seems ridiculous!  But that is the limitation most people unknowingly place on themselves with DNA research. In this session you will learn--
  • How to calculate DNA coverage (the percentage of an ancestor’s DNA you are using for research)
  • Collaborating with relatives who have already tested
  • Who to test next for the best coverage
  • Descendancy research considerations and strategies
  • Tips for recruiting testers
